It's possible to take a trip close to home! Our mechanic, Denis, suggests this route, which he completed over two days this year.
Last March, our mechanic Denis and his friend Tanguy set out to discover Walloon Brabant and Hainaut. Always happy to share his experiences, Denis has concocted an improved itinerary that gives pride of place to the picturesque landscapes and hidden treasures of our country.
Along the way, you'll be able to admire many emblematic monuments, including theAulne Abbey, the town of Thuin, the Binche ramparts, the Quesnoy slag heap and the Strépy-Thieu boat elevator .
Further afield, discover the Bois de Hal, the Butte du Lion de Waterloo, the Abbaye de Villers-la-Ville and the Château de Corroy-le-Château .
Departing from Namur, the trail starts out gently along the Ravel river, then climbs upwards along beautiful dirt roads and wild paths. Vitrival, Biesme, Hanzinne, Tarcienne and Nalinnes will be the first villages you pass through.
With a 50/50 split between dirt roads and asphalt, this is a superb bikepacking route. There are very few mountain bike passages or portage sections. Almost everything can be done on the bike.
Denis and Tanguy completed it in two days, with a pleasant stage in Soignies: "We got there around 6pm, but the first day was pretty intense: 132 km with lots of dirt roads and elevation changes. On the second day, the counter read another 116 km.
If we had to do it again, we might have added a stage to take full advantage of the magnificent scenery. For example, by finding accommodation on Warmshowers.orga community site where bike travelers welcome other bike travelers into their homes".
Any questions? Give us a call or come and say hello to Denis at the Namur workshop.
The adventure begins around the corner from you!
